I just learned that this Substack is about to cross 1500 subscribers. Wow! Thank you so much for following along here. One of my favorite things is to see the handles and bios of people as they pop up in my notifications, which nine times out of ten leaves me marveling at how interesting people are!
I love the kind of connection virtual communities offer, and I have some ideas simmering about where to next focus my attention. I started this Substack on a whim and end up writing about whatever strikes my fancy—typically articles analyzing popular Christian parenting empires and ideas, reflections on narrative portions of Scripture and theological themes, and tidbits from my writing experience. But I’m curious to know more about YOUR interests as a reader. What do you enjoy reading? What would you like to see more of? I’d love it if you’d take a minute to share your thoughts with me in the two polls below.
I’m also trying to consider how to responsibly use my work hours. While I still aim to write two free posts a month, I’m toying with the idea of creating additional subscriber only content, but I face the usual author conundrum of too many ideas at once. I’d love your feedback here as well if you’re willing to give it.
Are you interested in an online community and discussion of specific Christian parenting resources?
Kelsey and I reviewed over a hundred books, articles, and clips as we researched, and these primary sources formed the spine of the topical section in our book. We also researched a number of Christian parenting empires, ministries, and pastor-teacher-authors who created these resources. I often hear from people asking for my thoughts on a specific resource or corners of the Christian parenting library, so I’m thinking about creating some subscriber-only deep-dives, where I could put specific ministries under the microscope and parse resources out by chapter, theme, and author background while also creating more personal engagement with readers. I’m initially thinking about doing this with Growing Kids God’s Way, Vision Forum, Above Rubies, No Greater Joy ministries, but I am open to ideas!
Are you interested in connecting around Scripture and theology?
Another idea is to cultivate a virtual Bible study community, where we discuss different narrative portions or themes in Scripture or do a kind of virtual book club read-and-discuss different church history or theology resources. I also want to write about the origin and impact of various devotional practices like tithing, quiet time, missionary work, prayer, etc, so I’m pondering if that might be of interest to people deconstructing and rebuilding their spiritual practices. This would align with some work I’m doing on a future project, tentatively titled: Spiritual Treadmills: How Christian Excellence Became a Heavy Yoke.
Are you a writer who is interested in workshops or coaching?
And of course I always enjoy talking about writing, the book publication process, and coaching and encouraging other authors, particularly Christian women and mothers who may have put their own education or vocational work on hold during the busy domestic years. And so I wonder if some group coaching or workshops might be of interest.
Anyway, rather than diving into everything at once, I thought to see if there’s any interest for any of these things, so please do let me hear from you?
Thank you so much for connecting with me here! I’m excited to share some exciting book updates with you soon. In the meantime, you can learn more or pre-order the book here at 40% off!
